- The annual arts and culture spectacular that is the National Arts Festival, held in Grahamstown, is a highlight on all South African events calendars. This is the largest cultural festival in the country and regularly attracts a number of international visitors with its spectacular line-up of brilliant shows, exciting entertainment, scrumptious food and of course beautiful arts and crafts from around the country. The festival continues to grow and entertain thousands of visitors each year and this year runs from 30 June to 10 July, promising 10 days of amazing discoveries and entertainment. Hundreds of stalls line the streets and fields of Grahamstown, while street artists grab the attention of passers-by with their outstanding talent. The spectacular line-up of both Main and Fringe event performers is a highlight of the festival, featuring the country’s most talented established and upcoming performers from a vast variety of genres ranging from hypnosis and comedy to traditional dancing and music, putting on hundreds of shows over the duration of the festival. Accommodation facilities are available all around Grahamstown and range from school hostels and University residencies to Bed & Breakfast establishments and self-catering houses. Festival goers are, however, advised to book in advance to avoid disappointment.
